9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, May 30, 2022: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been declared the “Best Private University of North East India” in the Education Eminence 2022 Award given by the News18 media group. The award was conferred by Dr Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Assam and was accepted by Prof G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM in a function held yesterday evening in Guwahati. On the same occasion, a Debate competition was held on the topic “New Education Policy: Career and Beyond” in which Sharmina Begum, a B Pharma student of USTM received the best debater award from Dr Pegu.
Dr Ranoj Pegu and Editors of media groups, other eminent dignitaries present in the function congratulated USTM for receiving the award. USTM is having students from all the NE states, and specially from the state of Assam. “I am very happy and congratulate USTM family for receiving this award. My best wishes for USTM to go forward in its mission of becoming a world class university”, said the minister.
Speaking in this regard, Prof G. D. Sharma, VC, USTM said, “Based on our achievement in quality education as well as teaching learning process, the sports achievement and the NET qualifier students, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council has awarded ‘A’ grade to USTM in 2021. Getting ‘A’ grade in 1st cycle of NAAC assessment is actually rare and we achieved it.” The NAAC grading takes into account different aspects about the quality of the syllabi, the teachers and students’ interaction, teaching learning process, research and outreach activities and so on. Pay Back policy of USTM is unique one since all fees paid by students is returned by the university under this policy if they clear NET/GATE and other competitive exams like UPSC.
For the holistic approach of the USTM, not only academic part, but also for extra-curricular achievements of the students, it has emerged as one of the best universities of the North East in imparting holistic education and also taking into account all those aspects set by UGC, AICT and other higher education regulatory bodies. Committees from different regulatory bodies visited USTM and highly appreciated the USTM for imparting education having latest technology and creating sophisticated instrumentation centre. Even during the Covid Pandemic, USTM has not lost a single day of academic activity; everything was done online from classes to exams of graduation and post graduation on time which was prescribed initially. “So, all these factors are very much relevant for getting this award as best private university of North East”, added Prof Sharma.
